The best time to visit North Macedonia is between June and September for optimal hiking and trekking in warm temperatures. Spring and Autumn offer milder temperatures with a higher chance of rain. However, the best time for your North Macedonian adventure depends on your preferences.

The official currency of North Macedonia is the Macedonian Denar. Most ATMs are located in commercial banks throughout the country, with Stopanska Banka, Komercijalna Banka, and NLB Tutunska Banka ranking among the top three major banks in North Macedonia.

North Macedonia holds the 38th safety rank among 163 countries. We felt secure throughout our visit, considering it relatively safe for travellers. Nevertheless, it’s important to be careful, especially during nighttime, as is advisable in any destination.

Contrary to what we were told, hitchhiking in North Macedonia was unexpectedly easy for us, making it one of the most straightforward experiences. The people are generally friendly and willing to help, making Macedonia an ideal destination for those considering hitchhiking for the first time.

Visa

EU and Schengen citizens enter North Macedonia visa-free with a valid ID. Third-country nationals with EU or Schengen residence can stay 15 days, max 90 in 180. Multiple-entry Schengen holders have 15 days per entry, up to 90 in 180. Valid multiple-entry visas from the USA, UK, or Canada allow a 15-day stay, extending five days beyond the planned stay.

Plugs

Macedonia utilises Type F plugs, conforming to the CEE 7/4 and CEE 7/7 standards, commonly known as a Schuko plug. The Type F plugs in Macedonia feature two round pins with a 4.8-millimetre diameter for the line and neutral contacts.
