What to Know

Best time to visit

Kosovo experiences a mild continental climate, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. The best time to visit is during the spring, from April to June, when temperatures are pleasant and some snow still decorates the mountain tops.

Currency and ATMs

Kosovo’s official currency is the euro. ATMs, widely available in most commercial banks across Kosovo, accept international debit and credit cards, with MasterCard and Visa being the most often accepted. However, Diners Club and American Express are not always accepted.

Safety Rank

Reflecting its status as a very safe destination, Kosovo holds the 70th safety rank out of 163 countries. From our perspective, we had the pleasure of meeting incredible people and always felt a strong sense of safety throughout our time in Kosovo.

Hitchhiking

Hitchhiking in Kosovo is easy, and while appearance matters, some locals often stop you for a ride without signalling. Most drivers may want to share personal stories and tell you about their history. Make it clear you’re hitchhiking and don’t have money.

Visa

Kosovo allows visa-free entry for specific cases, including holders of a valid biometric residence permit from a Schengen member state for up to 15 days. Travellers outside the Schengen area must obtain a visa to enter Kosovo legally.

Plugs

Kosovo operates on a standard voltage of 220 Volts AC at 50Hz, and the power sockets accommodate the standard 2-round prongs. Electrical appliances in Kosovo typically use the Western European standard plug with 2 square pins.
