What to Know
Best time to visit
The optimal times to visit Serbia are from March to May and September to October, avoiding the peak heat of June, July, and August. The months with the least rainfall are February and October, while snowfall is typical from November to March.
Currency and ATMs
The official currency of Serbia is the Serbian Dinar. ATMs are easily accessible, particularly in post offices, and accept DinaCard, VISA, MasterCard, and Maestro payment cards. We suggest using NLB ATMs to avoid additional charges.
Safety Rank
Serbia holds the 65th safety rank out of 163 countries, making it a safe travel destination. While it requires standard caution, similar to any other place, Belgrade, especially, exudes the vibrancy and infrastructure of a European capital. We had no issues and consistently felt secure throughout our time in Serbia.
Hitchhiking
Hitchhiking in Serbia can be challenging, with an average wait time of 2-3 hours or more. Night hitchhiking is even more difficult due to the scarcity of streetlights outside cities. Drop-offs might be several kilometres from the nearest place, requiring additional walking to reach a decent junction.
Visa
EU citizens enjoy visa exemption for visiting Serbia, while other travellers need to obtain a visa from a Serbian diplomatic mission.
Plugs
Serbia, like Macedonia, uses Type F plugs, which adhere to the CEE 7/4 and CEE 7/7 standards.
